Western Dubuque Community School District has vested interest in providing top-of-the-line curriculum, instruction, and assessment measures to our children. We believe in providing all students with a thinking curriculum that gives multiple opportunities for higher-level comprehension skills and a critical importance in reading and writing.

The Common Core State Standards of English Language Arts & Literacy are the end result of a widespread effort to accomplish to need by the states to provide K-12 standards that assist schools in ensuring that all students are college and career ready in literacy no later than the end of high school.

The Standards set requirements for English Language Arts (ELA) as well as literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subjects.

The Standards also lay out the vision, mission, and goals of what it means to be a literate person in the twenty-first century.
